Cruise ships returning to Port Valdez during the summer of next year

There is a potential for over eleven thousand passengers to visit the town’s attractions

Cruise ships will be docking in Valdez next summer.

Last week, the City of Valdez announced that two major cruise lines will be makes stops in Valdez during the Summer of 2019.

Viking Ocean Cruises will be making eight stops in Port of Valdez during its eleven day “Alaska and the Inside Passage” cruise; Holland America will be passing through Valdez three times as part of the twenty-one day “Ultimate Alaska and Pacific Northwest Adventurer” cruise.

Holland America’s MS Maasdam will be the first to stop in Valdez on May 13. The vessel, which measures 780 feet by 105.8 feet, can hold up to 1,258 passengers on its nine decks.

The MS Maasdam will be departing and returning to San Francisco, California. During the twenty-one day voyage. In addition to Valdez, it will make stops in Ketchikan, Sitka, Homer, Kodiak, Haines, Juneau, Wrangell, Vancouver British Columbia and Astoria Oregon. Valdez will be visited by the MS Maasdam on its seventh day of the cruise itinerary.

There is currently no information about Valdez on the Holland America itinerary for prospective passengers and prospective clients.

The Viking Orion, which is ran by Viking Ocean Cruises, will be making its first official stop in Valdez on June 3. The Orion is a 745 foot by 94.5 foot cruise vessel with room for 930 passengers.

The Viking Orion will be sailing to and from Seward and Vancouver, based upon the calendar dates of the cruise. During the eleven-day cruise, stops will include Ketchikan, Sitka, Juneau, Skagway, and Valdez.

Viking Ocean Cruises provides free walking tours of Old Town and advertises helicopter glacier tours, Columbia Glacier cruises and treks out to the Valdez Glacier by kayak and foot. Valdez will be the first stop after the Viking Orion begins its voyage from Seward and the second to last stop when leaving from Vancouver.

The ships will be in port for 6-8 hours. Both Viking Ocean Cruises and Holland America recommend that businesses hoping to cater to cruise passengers offer “unique” things to do or purchase in Valdez.

Holland America’s 780-foot-long MS Maasdam is one of two cruise ships that will make repeat stops in Valdez next summer.

Holland America’s MS Maasdom is scheduled to be in Valdez on May 13, from Noon – 8 p.m., June 3, from 2 p.m. – 8 p.m., and June 24, from Noon – 8 p.m. The Viking Orion will be in town on June 3, June 7, June 23, June 27, July 13, July 17, August 2, and August 6. The June 3, schedule will be from 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and the June 7, times will be from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. with each cruise date switching times. The June 3, cruise will be starting in Vancouver and ending in Seward and the June 7, cruise will be going from Seward to Vancouver. The June 7, June 27, July 17, and August 2, Viking Orion ships are already completely sold out.

Yes, both cruise lines will be in Valdez on June 3.
