When did you first become involved in the tourism industry? : The White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad hosts the Santa Train, which is an annual event and part of Skagway’s Yuletide celebrations. Last year White Pass had 476 riders, which was a record! When did you first become involved in the tourism industry? My first job was with the Westmark Hotel in Skagway in 1995, working as a cook (not one of my strong suits). Throughout the years, I’ve worn many different hats, eventually finding my way to White Pass in 2002, where I started as a dock representative and shuttle driver. Working for White Pass on the docks gave me firsthand exposure to guests disembarking the ships, which deepened my understanding of the multiple facets of the tourism industry. Those early seeds that were planted stick with me to this day in my current role. How is your business affected by the cruise industry? While our passengers travel to Skagway many ways, the majority of them arrive via cruise ship, which makes the cruise lines our biggest customer. This means that our relationship with all cruise lines is vital to our business and we work together with them to ensure their guests have a memorable experience on board our train.
