Construction on two new $54 million cruise ship berths in Juneau, each capable of accommodating 1,000-foot vessels, began in fall 2015 and will resume this fall after the last cruise ship has left. The new facilities will improve safety, efficiency, as well as accommodate larger vessels to support the growth of the cruise industry. The Port of Juneau welcomed the Volendam as the first cruise ship to tie up at the new dock.
