Ketchikan welcomed its 1 millionth cruise ship visitor Sept. 25, a sure sign that Alaska’s cruise ship industry is a vibrant and growing sector of Alaska’s economy., as is the overall tourism industry.

Princess Cruises presented its first donation from the Princess Animal Welfare Sponsor (PAWS) to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC) in the amount of $25,000.

Facing a multibillion-dollar deficit, declining revenue and a public generally opposed to new taxes, the state has cut back on most services.
